As I sat down on my bed just now, I glanced over to my bed-side table and a familiar sight met my eyes. There was my lamp, my small IKEA plant (that is fake but still super cute), my current read, and my diffuser. And then it dawned on me… My diffuser! How have I not shared this with you, our lovely readers yet? My diffuser is for essential oils and is one of the best items I own… honestly. I wake up, I turn it on. I’m getting ready for bed, I turn it on. I just walk into my room, I turn it on. Why? Because it’s fantastic.

A diffuser is well as it sounds, an object that with water diffuses said water into the air. But many are particularly designed for essential oils. Essential oils have wondrous, almost magical qualities and a diffuser takes just a few drops of oil, mixed with water and expels a small, constant stream of mist into the given area. You can get very aesthetically pleasing diffusers as well… think yoga studio vibes here. Mine is a wooden sphere with a white top that changes colours if I so desire (I usually do). The point of a diffuser is to disperse those wondrous qualities of the oils into the room, making the space it’s in smell amazing is just a huge bonus. Here are 5 great essential oils to use in your diffuser with an explanation of their magical properties! Only about 5 drops is needed!
1. Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus essential oil comes from the leaf of the eucalyptus tree and has been shown to promote feelings of clarity, focus, and easy breathing.
2. Lavender: Lavender comes from the flowers of the herb-like bush and has been shown to offer experiences of relaxation and quiet. It’s combination of molecules provide a soothing sensation to the skin and support overall well-being. This is a great one to use before bed if you have difficulties falling asleep.
3. Peppermint: Peppermint has been used for centuries to soothe aches and pains, and clear the mind from overactive thinking. Peppermint’s aroma offers the feeling of being energized and awakened.
4. Sweet Orange: My favourite! Sweet orange comes from the peel of sweet oranges and offers an irresistible feeling of happiness and joy.
5. Tea Tree: Tea Tree oil has been found to cleanse and clear the skin as well as encourages feelings of motivation and clear thinking.
6. Rosemary: Rosemary helps to improve memory and promote sharp thinking.
For reference: I use Artnaturals, Artisan Oil in the Essential 8 set and my diffuser is also from Artnaturals! Click here for a link to their site if you’d like to check it out!
